Arch Enemy - Will to Power

On their second album with Alissa White-Gluz in place on the microphone, having proved her ability to fill Angela Gossow’s shoes on War Eternal, Arch Enemy continues undisturbed on their path of standard melodic (but not too melodic) death metal with just enough tricks to keep a listener wanting more. This isn’t to say they don’t write quite a few solid, straightforward death metal tunes with harmonious dual guitar solos sprinkled all over the place. The singles “The Eagle Flies Alone” and “The World Is Yours” capture the invigorating and uplifting side of Arch Enemy’s music best, but much of the album comes up just a bit short in the variety department that helped War Eternal shine when it did. Clearly still a persistent band, Arch Enemy just sound like they often have, acceptably capable, but in need of more ambition to create more captivating songs.
