Oceano - Revelation

I had heard a lot of good things about this project, but at this point I’ve learned to temper my expectations with deathcore fans refer to a band’s new album as being by far their best and one of deathcore’s best. At only a little over half-an-hour, Revelation takes a lot of what has already been shown to work in deathcore and condensed it into its own explosive package of gutturals and low-string chugging. Indeed, it does work, Oceano do sound as though they have more demonic energy and fury to release from their depths than most other deathcore bands do. The thing that makes it less remarkable is that it’s like they’re a bomb of the same strategic type and blast radius as the average bomb, just producing a slightly higher temperature upon detonation. When it comes to deathcore, they will get the job done, and Revelation does it quite well, but not so much better or with any uniqueness that would dethrone someone’s already crowned favorite deathcore band, certainly not mine. But this bad boy sure is brutal from beginning to end, and for the deathcore lads who seem to only care about the magnitude of an album’s upfront brutality, this will do just fine.
