Scale the Summit - In a World of Fear

Bringing a few outside guitarists on board, Scale the Summit still manage to sound trapped in their own little instrumental prog bubble, with only a few moments of uniqueness shining through the breeze of their relatively low-key jamming. Though not distasteful or poorly written, In a World of Fear plays through with little to look back on by the end of it, save from a few pretty, ethereal passages. When the band plays it calm, they certainly come through with some interesting passages, like those on “Astral Kids” and the latter half of “Opal Bones”. But when the band shift to heavier gears, they may as well not even bother as they sound like a less flashy version of Animals as Leaders gutted of what intensity that band do show; case-in-point, the neutered almost-djent on “Witch House” and the album’s closer. While mildly enjoyable as it plays through, In a World of Fear ends up simply not impressionable.
